Shubert Mass in C Major

Music is an integral part of worship at St. Philip’s, and is one of the means by which we enter into the beauty of Holiness, where we listen to the Holy Spirit and experience the grandeur of God. The Anglican Church has a rich musical tradition. We honor this musical tradition, and we also explore music from other idioms, such as music from Taizé, Iona, and Contemporary music in Spanish and English. Our music reflects the many voices in our community—we are of many different ages, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, with a common mission to bring glory to God through our music.

Join Us!

Our Director of Music and Liturgy, Christopher Harrell, oversees the various choirs and instrumentalists who provide music for our services. Our parish is affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music, and we incorporate the Voice for Life curriculum in our rehearsals, which is an excellent introduction to singing and reading music, both in the adult and children’s choirs.

We invite you to join us in our active music ministry at St. Philip's!

Parish Choir

St. Philip’s Parish Choir

The St. Philip’s Parish Choir of adults sings at the 10 a.m. Eucharist on Sundays, and for special liturgies throughout the year. Members of the choir vary in their musical experience. Both experienced singers and beginners are welcome! We rehearse each Wednesday from 7:30-9:00 p.m. and also at 9:00 a.m. before the 10:00 a.m. Eucharist.

Children’s Music!
Our parish has many young families, so we invite the children to be part of our music ministry as well. The children’s choirs rehearse after church on Sundays at the same time as coffee hour, which usually runs from 11:30 to 12:15.

This year, we produced our first children's musical about Noah's Ark, "100 Percent Chance of Rain!"

The choir of St. Philip's joined forces with the Schola from the University of Miami in performing the Schubert Mass in C Major at Trinity Cathedral and at St. Philip's.

Concerts and St. Philip’s
In addition to providing music for the liturgy, St. Philip’s hosts many concerts throughout the year as an outreach ministry to the community. Our sanctuary has excellent acoustics for concerts, and we are happy to offer various concerts throughout the year. Many of these concerts are free, and a few ask for donations to support the musicians.

Come Join Us!
Whether you are an 'old timer' or a newcomer, you are invited to be part of the joy of music making at St. Philip’s! Opportunities abound for participating in one of our choirs, or supporting our concert series. Contact the church office if you are interested!
